IRONSHIELD COATING
Surface preparation and high-end coatings for a wide variety of objects and materials are one of the services available from IronShield. Offering liquid coating and powder coating services, IronShield can liquid coat — or paint — virtually everything that can be fit in a 20′ x 10′ x 12′ booth.
IronShield‘s powder coating works for any object that can fit inside an 35’ x 10’ x 10’ oven, holds an electrostatic charge, and endures the oven’s high heat. See the list below for a few examples of the types of items IronShield regularly powder coats.
- Tumblers
- Pots
- Sinks
- Planters
- Gussets
- Car bodies
- Motorcycle frames
- Architectural screening
- Gates
- Single line handrails
Powder Coat Preparation
Sand Blasting
IronShield’s climate-controlled facility features a painting and blasting booth 20’ x 10’ x 12’ in size. Sand’s used for blasting, cleaning, smoothing, and preparing project materials. During the blasting process, sand particles shot out of the sandblaster hit across the object’s surface at high speeds, scouring the surface.
Etching
As part of the powder coating preparation for metal, IronShield rinses the metal, degreases it, rinses it a second time, and finally etches it. Phosphate etching’s used to improve the powder’s adhesion to the metal. Some materials, such as aluminum, tend to be very slick and require a little extra help in ensuring the powder coating remains in place. Phosphate etching also significantly improves corrosion rust resistance.
Powder Coating
Powder coating, IronShield’s specialty, is a form of dry coating applied electrostatically before being cured in a large oven under high heats. This process converts the dry powder into an opaque, durable shell. Powder coating is an ideal process for metal items. However, it can also be used for other materials that can conduct a charge and endure high heats. Powder coating is a popular process for large items like car bodies, down to small items like tire rims and door handles.
Liquid Coating
Liquid coating is a broad category and can be used for different coating applications. It can be applied aired or airlessly to many different surfaces — including wood, plastic, metal and glass. IronShield’s liquid coating booth is 20’ x 10’ x 12’: large enough to handle architectural screening, automobile frames and other large items.
